Penny
Wade
has over 17 years experience with Autism. She has a Master’s Degree in
General Special Education – Applied Behavior Analysis from the
University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Business Administration Information Systems and Decision Sciences from San Diego State University.
She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and specializes in the
development and management of early intervention programs designed for
children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder ages eighteen months to
eight
years old.
Penny's biggest strength is her
insight into what it is like to be a parent of a special needs child.
She was first introduced to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in 1993 when
her oldest son was diagnosed on the autism spectrum. She immediately
joined FEAT, which at that time was a newly forming parent support group
in Sacramento,
CA that was interested in training families to
run early intervention in their homes using the Lovaas Method of ABA. Penny successfully ran a 40 hour week home program
with her son for two years which was supervised by doctoral students
from UCLA that were conducting a replication study on using discrete
trials with children with autism. Using the principals of ABA ended up becoming
Penny's life passion. It's not just something she does
with her son; it has become her way of life.
Prior to becoming a B.C.B.A., Penny worked as an ABA Therapist
Assistant for six years with families in the Seattle area. She has
received supervision and training from a variety of consultants in
Seattle, but credits most of her home program experience to what she has
learned from Kathleen Zanolli, Ph.D., BCBA-D; Allison Lowy Apple, Ph.D.,
BCBA-D.; and Cathy Olivere, M.Ed., BCBA. |
